Overall
There is no doubt that the G.SKILL Trident Z Royal has almost no opponents in RGB design and the patented crystalline light bar shows an innovative take on this RGB dominance. Obviously, in the future, the Trident Z Royal will be the best memory to inherit the “RGB lighting design”. However, according to G.SKILL’s previous pricing strategy, the pricing of this memory stick will not be very cost-effective.

The easiest way to improve the capacity of a memory module is to enhance the capacity of a single chip.

ZADAK (Apacer’s e-sports brand) came up with a new idea, that aims to improve RAM in a different way and by covering the memory with a double-height PCB, they aim to do just that. In this manner, ZADAK has doubled the capacity of each stick, achieving a single stick DDR4 with 32GB memory.

Of course, the complexity of power management, controller chips, EPROM, etc. are also doubled, ZADAK has faced pin addressing definition, signal layout, performance tuning and lots of other issues.

ZADAK has produced a new architecture that breaks the traditional platform limitations. ZADAK SHIELD DC DDR4 will have twice the capacity of a single memory slot on platforms that support Double Capacity technology. In general, it is the effect of changing the dual-channel dual-slot memory into a dual-channel four-slot design.

The set we received is 3200MHz, 14-16-16-36 & 14-14-14-34 1.35V, none-JEDEC standard. The single stick capacity is 32GB. The two sticks are one set, the total capacity is 64GB

As a double-sided B-die memory, it’s difficult to get much higher frequency under normal voltage and stock cooling heatsink. So we stopped at 3400Mhz 15-17-17-37 @ 1.35V without a voltage increase and latency change, the result of the enhancement is obvious

The Appearance
The top RGB lightning block

The ZADAK memory also has an RGB lighting system on the top, and there is no plastic light-guiding bar. However, ZADAK has created a diffuse reflection between the aluminum casings through a fine CNC cutting process, just above the memory. Uniform light effects can be seen from outside. The LED ball body will be seen when the line of sight is directly above the memory itself.

Overall

The ZADAK SHIELD DC RGB DDR4 64GB set provides the platform with the largest capacity memory support for the new generation of dual memory slot design. The 3200MHz frequency is in line with the mainstream of the current platform. Solid heat sink and the lighting design of the motherboard is even more icing on the cake. However, the double-capacity design has many limitations as an emerging and non-standard specification. It requires a supporting motherboard to be designed and adapted, which means only several of the new high-end motherboards can support this ram chipset. At the same time, the performance of the high-frequency overclocking is also weaker than others we have seen.

Overall, It complements the need for large-capacity memory for users of the new generation of dual-memory socket motherboards.
